India's first Vande Bharat sleeper depot takes shape in Jodhpur
India is building its very first special garage for a new kind of train called the Vande Bharat sleeper train.
This garage is being built in a city called Jodhpur.
Trains go to the garage for check-ups and repairs, just like people go to a doctor.
The first part of the garage is almost finished.
It cost about 140 crore rupees to build.
The second part will cost about 100 crore rupees more.
The garage will have special machines to fix wheels and a safety system called Kavach.
A company from Russia is helping with the technology, but the garage belongs to India.
Trains from places like Delhi, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad will come here for maintenance.
The government also plans to build three more such garages in other parts of India.
Jodhpur Railway Division of North Western Railway is setting up India's first maintenance depot dedicated to Vande Bharat sleeper trains.
The first phase of the depot is nearly complete and cost around Rs 140 crore, while the second phase will require about Rs 100 crore.
The depot will serve the North-Western region, covering trains running through Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Barmer, and Ahmedabad.
The depot is being developed through a joint venture with a Russian technology partner, with Indian Railways keeping full ownership of the infrastructure.
The government plans to build four such depots across the country in the first phase, and the depot will feature the Kavach anti-collision system and advanced maintenance lines.
The Jodhpur division also has a Rs 500 crore station redevelopment underway and a 270 km Samdari-Bhildi track doubling project budgeted at over Rs 3000 crore.
