Thane, Surat and Sabarmati to Form Three-Depot Maintenance Network
India is building its very first bullet train.
The train will run very fast between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The route is 508 kilometers long.
Trains need special workshops to stay safe and work well.
So, workers are building three big train maintenance depots.
One is in Thane, one is in Surat, and one is in Sabarmati.
Each depot will check, repair and wash the trains.
The Sabarmati depot will be the biggest, handling heavy repairs like fixing wheels and train bodies.
Having three depots spread along the route spreads out the work.
This helps keep India's first bullet train running safely and on time.
Thane, Surat and Sabarmati will form a three-depot rolling-stock maintenance network for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
The Sabarmati depot will handle both light and heavy maintenance, including emergency repair, wheel re-profiling, car body repair and bogie workshops.
Sabarmati will initially have four inspection lines and 10 stabling lines, expandable to eight inspection lines and 29 stabling lines.
The depot workshop is designed to accommodate 16-car trainsets with dedicated bogie exchange and general inspection lines.
The distributed three-depot network is expected to improve train availability along the 508-km corridor using advanced machinery deployed in India for the first time.
