NFR Marks 80th Independence Day With Safety, Connectivity, Growth Focus
On August 15, 2026, the Northeast Frontier Railway, which runs trains in northeastern India, celebrated the country's 80th Independence Day.
The General Manager of the railway hoisted the Indian flag and thanked freedom fighters, soldiers, and railway workers.
Twenty-five railway workers got special awards, called the Karmveer Puraskar, for doing a great job.
The railway leader also opened new and improved buildings, like a school and a hospital, for workers and their families.
The railway told everyone about its big achievements this year.
It made trains much safer by using new technology and special safety systems.
It also added new trains, including India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, to help people travel better.
The railway earned more money this year compared to last year.
It also built new freight terminals and sent the first container train from India to Nepal.
The goal is to make trains in the Northeast safer, faster, and better for everyone.
Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated the nation's 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 at the NFRSA Complex in Maligaon, with General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava hoisting the National Flag.
25 railway personnel were conferred with the Karmveer Puraskar, along with citations and cash rewards, for exemplary service.
The GM inaugurated the renovated Subir Raha Memorial Auditorium, new classrooms, a Prayer Shed and upgraded facade at Netaji Vidyapeeth Railway Higher Secondary School, and the extended Casualty Building of Central Hospital, Maligaon.
NFR's apportioned earnings reached Rs 2,744 crore during April-July 2026, an 8% growth, while ticket-checking earnings grew by 37%.
Key milestones included India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express from Kamakhya, the first ever container train from India reaching Nepal, four redeveloped Amrit Stations, and 23.7 MWp of solar capacity commissioned.
