24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset nears production, says ICF GM
India is making new, extra-long Vande Bharat trains that have beds for sleeping.
A factory in Chennai called ICF will build 50 of these new trains.
Right now, there is only one sleeping Vande Bharat train, and it runs between Howrah and Kamakhya.
That train has 16 coaches, with First, Second, and Third AC sleeping places.
The new train will be even bigger, with 24 coaches.
The factory has finished the drawings and will start building it very soon.
The people in charge also said that new Amrit Bharat trains will get air-conditioned coaches.
ICF is also building special electric freight trains to carry things like white goods.
They shared this news on India's 80th Independence Day.
Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) will manufacture 50 units of the 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset, with production drawings already prepared.
Currently only one Vande Bharat Sleeper train is in operation, running between Howrah and Kamakhya.
The existing 16-coach semi-high-speed train has 11 Third AC, four Second AC and one First AC coach.
ICF General Manager Manish Agarwal confirmed the development at the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the M Arun Sports Complex (ICF Stadium).
ICF has also developed Freight Electric Multiple Unit (Freight EMU) trainsets and upgraded Kolkata Metro coach interiors with safety features.
