Greater Chennai Corporation Announces Rs. 947 Crore Infrastructure Package

The Greater Chennai Corporation plans to spend Rs.

947 crore on improving Chennai.

Much of the money will be used to repair roads and make travel safer.

Workers will also remove old rubbish from two large dumpyards using a process called biomining.

The cleared land can then be used again.

The plan includes new parks, better schools and improved sports grounds.

Some neighborhoods will receive safer walking paths and routes near schools.

A new stormwater drain will help carry rainwater away during monsoons.

The projects will use money from the state government, national programs, loans and other funding agencies.

Parks and schools: Rs. 60 crore for 50 new parks and Rs. 50 crore for new school buildings and additional classrooms
Flood mitigation: Rs. 41 crore for a stormwater drain from the Otteri nullah canal’s Zero Point to the Cooum river
