Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced many projects to improve city life.

The biggest project is a large plant that will turn seawater into drinking water.

It will supply water to north Chennai and nearby areas.

Avadi will also get water available all day and night.

Old sewer pipes, roads, parks and waste facilities will be improved in several cities.

The government plans to plant one crore saplings and create 250 parks.

People who pass driving tests will soon receive digital licences on the same day.

The government also said it would withdraw certain cases against protesting farmers and teachers.

Largest project
A 400-million-litres-per-day seawater desalination plant at Minjur, estimated at Rs 4,800 crore.
Avadi water supply
A Rs 500 crore scheme will provide round-the-clock water to every household in Avadi Corporation.
Sewerage modernisation
The first phase of modernising Madurai’s 40-year-old underground sewerage network will cost Rs 2,400 crore.
Urban roads
Road construction and repairs across urban local bodies will receive Rs 1,850 crore.
Green initiatives
One crore saplings will be planted and maintained, alongside 250 parks statewide, at a total cost of Rs 305 crore.
Digital transport services
From September 15, successful driving-test candidates will receive digital licences the same day, and vehicle owners can download digital registration certificates.
Case withdrawals
Cases registered between May 2021 and April 2026 against farmers and teachers involved in peaceful protests will be withdrawn.
