Major Water Main Leak Repaired In Thane; Supply Restored To Mumbai City & Eastern Suburbs · freepressjournal.in

A very big water pipe near Thane sprung a leak, and people in parts of Mumbai did not have enough water.

Workers found the leak on Thursday night.

At first, they put a wooden plug in the hole to stop the water.

To fix the pipe for good, they dug around it and pumped out the water.

They planned to weld a metal patch onto the damaged pipe.

But the water inside the pipe was under very high pressure, and the pipe burst open again on Saturday.

The engineers had to work very fast and carefully with pumping stations to lower the pressure.

They finished the permanent repair by 5:00 PM on Saturday.

After that, the pipe was carefully filled with water again, and homes got their water back in stages, starting that evening.
