Mumbai Water Stock Rises To 92% After Pipeline Leak Repair
Mumbai is a very big city in India that gets its water from seven big lakes and dams.
One of the big pipes that carries water to the city got a leak.
Workers fixed the leak on Saturday evening.
After the repair, the amount of water in the lakes went up to a very high level of about 92 per cent.
That means there is plenty of water stored for the city.
The lakes are full because it has been raining a lot this monsoon season.
Some of the dams even started overflowing in July.
Now that the pipe is fixed, water will start flowing again to homes in phases.
The city's water supply will get back to normal smoothly.
Mumbai's combined useful water stock rose to 92.24 per cent on Sunday, August 16, after a pipeline leak was repaired.
A 3,000 mm diameter Mumbai-III water pipeline leak in Thane's Teen Hath Naka area was fixed on Saturday, August 15, at 5 pm.
Water supply to Mumbai city and the eastern suburbs is expected to resume smoothly in phases once the pipeline is charged from 9 pm.
The total useful water stock stood at 13,34,979 million litres against a total useful live storage capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.
Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi reservoirs are at 100 per cent capacity, while Vihar, Tulsi, Tansa and Modak Sagar dams began overflowing in July.
Reservoirs received fresh rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Modak Sagar recording 44 mm, Upper Vaitarna 32 mm and Tulsi 39 mm.
