Uttan–Virar Sea Link Gains In‑Principle Approval for Expressway Link
A big new bridge called the Uttan–Virar Sea Link is getting a green light from the Indian government to connect it with a major highway that runs from Delhi to Mumbai.
The bridge will be the longest in India and will help people and goods travel faster and easier along the coast.
It will also make it easier to reach a new big port and help businesses and tourists.
The project is expected to cut traffic jams, reduce pollution, and create jobs in the Mumbai area.
MoRTH gave in‑principle approval to link the Uttan–Virar Sea Link with the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway via Khardi near Virar.
The link will strengthen the Mumbai–Vadhavan Expressway Corridor and integrate it with India’s national expressway network.
The corridor, together with the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway and JNPT–Vadhavan Port Link, will form a 120‑km fully access‑controlled coastal route.
The 55.12‑km sea link, with a 24.35‑km main bridge, is expected to become India’s longest sea bridge.
The project aims to reduce congestion, lower emissions, improve freight movement, and boost trade, tourism, housing and employment in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
