Fadnavis inaugurates key Mumbai infra projects to boost mobility, connectivity
A very important leader named Devendra Fadnavis, who is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in India, switched on some brand-new roads and a train station in Mumbai.
Mumbai is a very big, busy city with lots of people and cars.
The new roads and station are meant to help people travel faster and avoid getting stuck in traffic.
He opened the projects using a video call from the Sahyadri Guest House in south Mumbai.
One of the new things is a station called Chembur on a new metro train line.
Special machines called tunnel boring machines, including one named Arjuna, will dig big tunnels so cars can go quickly between Thane and Borivali.
When the tunnels are finished, a trip that used to take more than an hour will only take around 15 minutes.
New air-conditioned trains for Mumbai commuters are also coming, with the first ones expected by 2027.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the final BKC-Vakola arm of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) Phase-2 via video link from the Sahyadri Guest House.
He also inaugurated the Chembur Metro station on Metro Line 2B and an elevated connector in the G-Block area of BKC.
Fadnavis launched 'Arjuna', the second tunnel boring machine for the Thane-Borivali twin-tunnel road project, after the first TBM 'Nayak' was launched in April.
The Thane-Borivali twin tunnels are expected to cut travel time between the two areas from about 60-90 minutes to around 12-15 minutes.
Under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), 238 new AC suburban trains were approved, with the first batch expected by 2027 and all trains by 2029-30.
