Mumbai’s Seven Lakes Reach 95.95% Water Stock as Monsoon Continues
Mumbai gets much of its water from seven lakes.
On Sunday morning, those lakes were almost full, holding 95.95% of their total useful water capacity.
Together, they contained more than 13 lakh million litres of water.
Vehar was completely full, and the other lakes were also close to full.
Rain fell over most of the lakes during the previous day.
The monsoon has helped keep the reservoirs supplied.
Some lakes even overflowed earlier in the season.
The current water level is slightly lower than it was at the same time last year.
Mumbai’s seven water-supply lakes held 95.95% of their combined useful storage as of 6 am on Sunday, August 30.
The reservoirs contained 13,88,423 million litres against a total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.
Vehar was at 100%, while Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna and Tulsi were also at high levels.
The lakes recorded rainfall during the previous 24 hours, ranging from 2 mm at Tansa and Bhatsa to 13 mm at Modak Sagar.
Several reservoirs overflowed earlier in the monsoon, with Vehar and Tulsi overflowing on July 7, Tansa on July 22 and Modak Sagar on July 23.
