Mumbai's Water Stock Rises To 89.05% As Lakes Gain
Mumbai is a very big city in India, and like all big cities it needs lots of clean water for people to drink and use.
The city gets its water from seven lakes, which fill up when it rains.
Right now it is monsoon season, the rainy season, and it has been raining a lot.
Because of the rain, the lakes are very full.
On the morning of August 11, the seven lakes together were holding about 89 out of every 100 buckets of water they can hold, called 89.05 per cent full.
The day before, they were 88.88 per cent full, so they gained a bit more water.
Two of the lakes, Vihar and Tulsi, are so full that water is flowing over the top.
The weather forecast says more moderate rain and thundershowers are coming, so there is no worry about running out of water right now.
The city will keep watching the lakes closely.
Mumbai's seven lakes recorded 89.05% of live storage capacity as of 6 am on August 11, up 0.17 percentage points from 88.88% a day earlier.
The previous day's report showed the stock rising to 88.88% from 88.70%, a gain of 0.18 percentage points.
Combined useful water content stood at about 12,88,833 million litres against a total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.
Vihar and Tulsi lakes are completely full at 100% and began overflowing on July 7; Tansa Dam overflowed from July 22 and Modak Sagar from July 23.
The IMD forecast moderate rain and thundershowers on Monday, with winds of 50-60 kmph and a maximum temperature around 32°C.
