Central Java Promotes Everyday Use of Javanese to Preserve the Language

Central Java has a policy asking people to use Javanese every Thursday.

Officials say speaking it in daily life, not just at school or festivals, can help keep the language alive.

They also say its different levels of speech teach respect and good manners.

A regional festival gave 490 students a chance to practise Javanese and meet peers.
