Depok detention center officer fired for smuggling drugs to inmates

Indonesia’s corrections ministry has fired a staff member at the Depok detention center in West Java.

The officer, identified as S in one account and SD in another, was dismissed from the civil service for smuggling drugs to inmates three times.

Police said the officer was paid 1 million rupiah for each delivery.

The drugs were hidden in deodorant and soap, then taken into the detention area.

The case came to light after a video of inmates apparently using drugs and dancing inside the facility circulated online.

Two inmates tested positive for drugs and were transferred to a prison in Nusakambangan, Central Java.

Other staff received disciplinary sanctions, while the detention center said it had examined inmates and staff as part of its investigation.
