Golkar Says It Will Back Prabowo for Indonesia’s 2029 Presidential Election
Indonesia’s Golkar Party says it will support Prabowo Subianto in the 2029 presidential election.
Gerindra, Prabowo’s party, welcomed the announcement.
Gerindra spokesperson Sugiat Santoso said the party’s grassroots members also want Prabowo to run again.
Neither party has named a vice-presidential candidate.
Sugiat said the choice will be Prabowo’s, while Golkar says it usually decides on its vice-presidential support closer to candidate registration.
For now, Gerindra says it is focused on supporting the government’s priority programs.
The parties’ statements indicate early support for Prabowo, but the election ticket is not yet complete.
Golkar deputy chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia said the party will support Prabowo Subianto as its presidential candidate in Indonesia’s 2029 election.
Gerindra spokesperson Sugiat Santoso welcomed Golkar’s support and said party members and grassroots supporters also want Prabowo to run again.
Neither party has named a vice-presidential candidate for 2029.
Sugiat said the choice of running mate and other strategic decisions are Prabowo’s responsibility within Gerindra.
Sugiat said Gerindra is currently focused on supporting the government and Prabowo’s priority programs.
