Indonesia’s Agrarian Reform Agency Speeds Up Plans for Its Structure

Indonesia’s National Agrarian Reform Agency, known as BRAN, is working to set up a clear organizational structure and define how it will operate.

Its chief, Dedi Prasetyo, discussed the plans in Jakarta with Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini and Deputy Agrarian Affairs Minister Ossy Dermawan.

The talks focused on clarifying BRAN’s responsibilities and how they differ from those of the Agrarian Affairs Ministry and land agency, ATR/BPN.

Dedi said BRAN is not meant to take over other institutions’ powers; ATR/BPN will continue to handle land administration, while BRAN will coordinate agrarian reform across sectors.

The agency also wants to integrate land data to map problems, set priorities and track results.

Clear roles and coordinated work are intended to reduce overlapping duties and make it easier to resolve agrarian issues.

Officials will continue technical discussions to refine BRAN’s structure and responsibilities and align any supporting rules with the law.
