Democrats Say They Have Not Discussed Indonesia’s 2029 Presidential Race
Indonesia’s Democratic Party says it has not yet discussed who to support for president or vice president in the 2029 election.
The party says its leader, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, is focused on his current role as coordinating minister for infrastructure and regional development in President Prabowo Subianto’s government.
Golkar, another political party, has said it will support Prabowo for president in 2029.
Golkar has not chosen a vice-presidential candidate.
Democratic Party spokesman Herzaky Mahendra Putra said the party has not heard of another presidential candidate besides Prabowo.
He said the party respects Golkar’s position and is focused on helping Prabowo’s government succeed.
Discussions about candidates are expected later, with the vice-presidential choice to be decided by the presidential candidate and supporting parties.

Demokrat spokesperson Herzaky Mahendra Putra said party leader Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono is focused on his government duties as coordinating minister for infrastructure and regional development.
Herzaky said Demokrat has not heard of a 2029 presidential candidate other than President Prabowo Subianto and respects Golkar’s position.
Golkar deputy chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia said his party supports Prabowo as its presidential candidate for 2029.
Golkar has not decided whom it would support as Prabowo’s running mate, with Doli saying that choice is usually made close to candidate registration.
Herzaky said Demokrat is focused on helping ensure the success of Prabowo’s government.
