Ganjar Urges Focus on Kalimantan Fires Amid Calls to Impeach Gibran
Calls to impeach Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have emerged after a Constitutional Court ruling on his education documents.
The court rejected a challenge over the documents, saying there was no evidence that Gibran had reported completing high school when he registered as a vice-presidential candidate in 2024.
The challengers say they plan to meet lawmakers, the Regional Representative Council, the People’s Consultative Assembly and political parties to seek support for impeachment.
They say the House of Representatives is the first body with constitutional authority to initiate the process.
Ganjar Pranowo, a senior figure in the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, urged political leaders to focus instead on fires in Kalimantan that are still burning.
Smoke from the fires has affected neighboring countries and drawn protests, he said.
The challengers also plan to approach the presidential palace, while Ganjar said the fires should be a government priority.
PDIP official Ganjar Pranowo said the government should prioritize fighting forest and land fires in Kalimantan over calls to impeach Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Calls for impeachment followed a Constitutional Court ruling that found no evidence of Gibran’s high school diploma being reported when he registered as a vice-presidential candidate in 2024.
