Swachh Bharat Mission: 5.63 lakh villages get liquid waste management
The government wants villages to stay clean and healthy.
It runs a big program called the Swachh Bharat Mission, which helps villages manage liquid waste, like dirty water from homes.
A minister named V Somanna told the Parliament about how the program is going.
Out of 5.87 lakh villages, more than 5.63 lakh already have liquid waste management arrangements.
Villages can build small pits called soak pits or leach pits to help water soak into the ground.
Some villages build bigger cleaning systems for the whole community.
The government gives money to help, up to Rs 280 per person in smaller villages and Rs 660 per person in bigger villages.
More than 42.98 lakh community cleaning systems have already been built.
The goal is to stop dirty water from staying in villages so people can live healthier lives.
Over 5.63 lakh of 5.87 lakh villages are reported to be covered with liquid waste management arrangements under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase II as on August 7.
Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna shared the data in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
Over 42.98 lakh community grey water management assets, including soak pits and treatment systems, have been reported on the SBM(G) IMIS.
Financial support of up to Rs 280 per capita is provided for grey water management in villages with up to 5,000 population, and up to Rs 660 per capita for larger villages.
Grey water interventions include household soak pits, leach pits, magic pits, kitchen gardens, and community-level waste stabilisation ponds and constructed wetlands.
