Centre Reimburses Rs 5,289 Crore To States Under JJM 2.0
The government of India runs a big program called the Jal Jeevan Mission to bring clean drinking water to villages.
States build water pipes and taps using money from this program.
While the program was being updated, some states spent their own money to keep working on water projects.
The central government decided to pay those states back.
It returned about 5,289 crore rupees to 10 states.
It also sent another 865 crore rupees to 13 states using a new online system called SNA SPARSH.
Uttar Pradesh received the biggest amount of money back.
The new version of the program, JJM 2.0, will run until December 2028.
Its goal is to make sure water keeps flowing and stays safe to drink, not just to build new pipes.
Villages will help look after their own water systems with the support of their local councils.
The Centre reimbursed Rs 5,289.09 crore as central share to 10 states under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 in 2026-27.
A separate Rs 865.87 crore was released through the SNA SPARSH platform across 13 states to keep the rural drinking water programme on track.
Uttar Pradesh received the highest reimbursement of Rs 2,711.52 crore, followed by Karnataka (Rs 795.74 crore) and Maharashtra (Rs 594.44 crore).
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved JJM 2.0 on March 10, extending the mission till December 2028 with an outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore.
JJM 2.0 marks a shift from infrastructure creation to assured service delivery through gram panchayat-led operation and maintenance and scheme-level fund release via SNA SPARSH.
