Hyderabad Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Rallies, Trees, Plans
India celebrates Independence Day every year to remember the day the country became free.
This year, the city of Hyderabad celebrated the 80th Independence Day with many fun and meaningful events.
Thousands of schoolchildren joined a big rally while carrying the national flag.
At a famous technology university, students planted more than 10,000 trees to make the campus greener.
A university leader announced big plans to build and improve campuses with lots of money.
People also sang patriotic songs, including the famous Vande Mataram.
A judge talked about how people can get free legal help if they need it.
City leaders asked everyone to keep their neighborhoods clean, safe and eco-friendly.
Many people remembered the freedom fighters who helped India become independent.
Around 1,300 students from 19 schools and organisations joined a Tiranga Rally at Rashtrapati Nilayam, where the National Flag was hoisted and quiz winners were felicitated.
IIT Hyderabad planted more than 10,000 native trees on the day, taking the campus total to one lakh, installed a 100-foot National Flag, released 'Birds of IITH' and held a blood donation camp.
Osmania University announced a ₹1,000-crore campus development plan, a ₹2-crore gender budget, a ₹10-crore research seed grant and a ₹5,000-per-month Chief Minister's Fellowship.
At HMDA, Telangana's Vision 2047 was highlighted, while officials called for protecting lakes, nalas and parks and restoring interconnected lakes to reduce flooding.
At JNTUH, floral tributes were paid to B.R. Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru, and the full Vande Mataram was played on its 150th anniversary; other events included a legal awareness programme and honours for 16 sanitation workers.
