Naidu Presents Awards to Parade, Tableau Winners at Independence Day
India celebrates Independence Day on August 15 every year to remember when the country became free.
This year, the state of Andhra Pradesh held its big celebration at a place called Nelapadu in Amaravati.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, was the special guest.
He raised the Indian flag and watched a big parade.
Police officers marched in neat lines and got medals for their good work.
Colourful floats called tableaux showed different government programs like education, farming, and protecting forests.
Some of these floats won prizes.
The floats are on display for people to visit until August 17.
Another leader, Minister Nara Lokesh, went to a separate celebration in the city of Vijayawada and gave medals there too.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unfurled the National Flag and reviewed the parade as chief guest at the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Nelapadu, Amaravati.
The AP Social Welfare contingent won the best unarmed contingent award, while the AP Special Police, Kurnool, secured second place among armed contingents.
The Education and Integrated Shiksha and Horticulture Department tableaux jointly won the first prize; Handlooms and Textiles took second and the Forest Department third.
Around 25 government departments took part in the tableau display, open for public viewing in Vijayawada, Guntur and CRDA limits until August 17.
Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh attended a separate Vijayawada celebration and presented a medal to Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu.
