Mumbai to Receive 238 AC Local Rakes by 2030
Mumbai will get 238 new air-conditioned local train rakes.
Three railway factories will share the work of building them.
Integral Coach Factory in Chennai will make 120 rakes.
Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala will make 71, and Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli will make 47.
The first trains are planned to arrive in 2027.
All 238 rakes are expected to be completed by 2030.
The factories will use train designs that have already been developed and proven.
The trains are meant to help Mumbai use new railway infrastructure being built under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project.
Indian Railways will produce 238 air-conditioned EMU rakes for Mumbai’s suburban network.
Integral Coach Factory in Chennai will build 120 rakes, Rail Coach Factory 71, and Modern Coach Factory 47.
The factories will share production in an approximately 50:30:20 ratio.
The first trainsets are planned for delivery from 2027, with the full fleet expected by 2030.
Production will use existing RDSO/ICF specifications to support timely rolling-stock availability under MUTP.
