Upgraded Nepalganj Road-Bahraich Rail Section Inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh
A railway line in Uttar Pradesh has been improved after many years.
The 56.15-kilometre line was changed to broad gauge, which is used on the wider railway network.
It was also electrified so electric trains can use it.
The work cost nearly Rs 730 crore.
Four train services were extended to Nepalganj Road.
This gives people in nearby areas better links to cities such as Gonda, Gorakhpur and Varanasi.
The railway may also make travel easier between India and nearby parts of Nepal.
Officials said it could help people, businesses and local development.
Yogi Adityanath and Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the upgraded Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail section.
The 56.15-kilometre route was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge and electrified at a cost of nearly Rs 730 crore.
The section, originally constructed in 1886, connects stations including Bahraich, Risiya, Matera, Nanpara, Babaganj and Nepalganj Road.
Four existing train services were extended to Nepalganj Road, providing links to Gonda, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and other cities.
Officials said the project would improve cross-border connectivity with Nepal and support trade, employment, education, healthcare and tourism.
