Mumbai Metro Invites Bids for Retail Spaces at 34 Stations
The Mumbai Metro wants to add little shops inside its train stations.
Right now, it makes money from tickets.
It wants to earn extra money by renting out space to shops.
The metro company asked businesses to place bids for these spaces.
There are 34 stations on three metro lines in Mumbai.
About 350,000 people ride these lines every day.
That means lots of customers for new shops.
Small spaces are called kiosks and bigger ones are called blocks.
Shop owners can sell food, snacks, and other everyday items.
The shops must follow the metro's rules for design and safety.
MMMOCL has invited bids to lease around 73,839 sq ft of commercial space across 34 stations on Mumbai Metro Lines 2A, 7 and 9.
The Request for Proposal was issued on August 7; spaces up to 200 sq ft are classified as kiosks and larger ones as blocks.
The three corridors carry more than 3.5 lakh passengers daily, which MMMOCL says makes station retail attractive.
Bidders must pay a refundable earnest money deposit of Rs 1 lakh; a pre-bid meeting is set for August 17 and a site visit for August 18.
Technical bids will be opened on September 15 at 11 am, with financial bid dates to be announced later, as part of MMMOCL's non-fare box revenue push.
