Delhi Plans Major Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Transformation
Delhi’s government says it is working to improve water and sewer systems.
It wants every home to receive clean water regularly.
The Asian Development Bank will help pay for many of the projects.
New water pipes and reservoirs are planned in several parts of the city.
These projects are expected to help millions of residents.
The government also plans to build 28 smaller sewage treatment plants.
Existing sewage treatment plants will be improved.
Sewer connections have already been added for many homes in unauthorised colonies.
Officials are also working on places where rainwater causes flooding.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Delhi is pursuing projects for uninterrupted, clean household water supply with Centre support.
The Asian Development Bank is providing Rs 2,500 crore to the Delhi Jal Board, covering 70% of project costs.
Two Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant distribution packages worth Rs 805 crore and Rs 935 crore have been approved.
Projects worth about Rs 2,990 crore will establish 28 decentralised sewage treatment plants, while existing plants will be upgraded.
Sewer networks have been completed in 114 unauthorised colonies, connecting 1,28,633 households, officials said.
