Modi Honors Shastri as India-Uzbekistan Ties Reach New Level
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uzbekistan for a two-day state visit.
He went to a memorial for former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent.
Shastri is remembered for the words “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.”
He died in Tashkent in 1966 after signing an agreement connected to the India-Pakistan war.
Modi also met Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The two leaders agreed to make their countries’ partnership closer.
They want trade between India and Uzbekistan to grow to more than $5 billion by 2030.
They also planted a tree together to show support for a greener future.
Uzbekistan gave Modi its highest award for foreign leaders.
