Five Suspects in Indonesia Electric Motorbike Case Face Prosecution

Five people have been handed to prosecutors in Jakarta in an alleged corruption case involving electric motorbikes bought for Indonesia’s free nutritious meals program.

The case concerns the National Nutrition Agency, which bought the vehicles for teams supporting the program.

The suspects include one active-duty military officer and four people from private companies.

Investigators say the purchase covered 19,269 motorbikes, and that thousands were delivered without batteries while all lacked official vehicle plates.

The vehicles could not be used or recorded as state assets, according to prosecutors.

An audit put the alleged loss to the state at about 863.8 billion rupiah.

Prosecutors will review the case files and evidence, prepare charges and submit the case to a Jakarta corruption court.
