Demokrat Open to Hearing Calls to Impeach Indonesia’s Vice President Gibran
Indonesia’s Democratic Party says it is open to hearing from people calling for Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to be impeached.
The calls followed a Constitutional Court ruling that said there was no evidence of a high school diploma being reported by Gibran when he registered as a vice-presidential candidate in 2024.
The court rejected the challengers’ case.
Party secretary-general Herman Khaeron said the party would study the ruling and consider appropriate steps.
The challengers plan to seek meetings with the House of Representatives, the Regional Representative Council, the People’s Consultative Assembly and political parties.
They want lawmakers to begin the impeachment process, which their lawyer says must start in the House.
The party has not said whether it supports impeachment.
