About 639 hectares of land remain under firefighting in six Indonesian provinces
Indonesia says about 639 hectares of land are still being fought over fires across six provinces: West, Central and South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Riau and Jambi.
Central Kalimantan and South Sumatra are the main priorities for the response.
More than 60,177 personnel have been deployed for ground operations, while aircraft are also dropping water on fires in some areas.
Officials say water-bombing operations have put out, on average, more than 80 percent of the area newly burned each day.
The government is also using weather modification to make use of growing rain clouds, as the rainy season is expected to spread across the country from mid- to late October.
Officials say conditions have improved in Riau, West Kalimantan, Jambi and South Kalimantan, but thick smoke makes some areas difficult to reach by air.
The government says it can still manage the fires and has not declared a national disaster, while the president has ordered efforts to be strengthened until the fires are fully out.
