Doli and Hasyim clash over a rule for Indonesia’s 2024 election
A dispute has resurfaced in Indonesia over a rule in the regulations for the 2024 presidential election.
The rule concerned education records required of presidential and vice-presidential candidates, including an exception for candidates with university degrees but no overseas high-school certificate.
Ahmad Doli Kurnia, who led a parliamentary commission at the time, says he was not involved in discussing the clause.
Former election commission chief Hasyim Asy’ari says it was included in a draft discussed with lawmakers and approved at a hearing attended by Doli.
The election commission has said the wording was already in a draft discussed before that hearing.
Indonesia’s Constitutional Court rejected a challenge to the rule, which had been linked to Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming’s eligibility.
Doli has challenged the commission to discuss the allegations openly and said he asked parliamentary leaders to hold an official meeting.
Former KPU chair Hasyim Asy'ari and lawmaker Ahmad Doli Kurnia are trading accusations over a rule in Indonesia’s 2024 election regulations.
The dispute concerns Article 18(3) of KPU Regulation No. 19 of 2023, which set requirements for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Doli says he does not recall the provision being discussed, while Hasyim says it was debated and approved at a meeting attended by Doli.
The provision became controversial amid claims it was inserted to help Gibran Rakabuming Raka qualify as a vice-presidential candidate.

What people are saying
lupa boleh, munafik jangan
I ask him, now he is a commissioner at a state-owned company, right? Ask him where he got that from. Who gave him that commissioner position as a gift?
As far as I know, that paragraph wasn't there.
