Jakarta plans to reshape Pasar Baru as a 24-hour food district in 2027

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung plans to begin reshaping Pasar Baru, a shopping district in central Jakarta, in 2027.

He wants it to become a 24-hour food destination inspired by Myeongdong in Seoul, South Korea.

The work is planned after redevelopment of Blok M, another Jakarta district, is complete.

The city also plans to give Glodok a Chinese theme and make Kota Tua feel more European.

Pramono says a future MRT route through the areas would connect districts with Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European themes.

The plans are part of a broader effort to develop Jakarta’s districts around distinct identities and visitor attractions.

The city and MRT Jakarta aim to finish the full Blok M redevelopment by 2029, while its mixed-use development is targeted for completion in 2030.
