Lokayukta Raids Indore Officer, Finds Assets Worth ₹4.59 Crore

One such team is called the Lokayukta.
In the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, India, a man named Jitendra Kumar Pandey works for the city office.
Early on a Friday morning, the Lokayukta team searched his house and other buildings.
They think he owns things that cost much more money than he earned from his job.
His job paid him about 80 lakh rupees over about 31 years.
But the team found houses, land, vehicles, gold and cash that might be worth about 4.59 crore rupees.
That is a very big difference, like having far more coins in your piggy bank than you were ever given.
Some of the buildings are registered in his wife's name, and one of them is used as a hostel for students.
The team says they will check all the papers carefully before deciding what happens next.
The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta raided properties linked to Indore Municipal Corporation Assistant Revenue Officer Jitendra Kumar Pandey on Friday, with searches beginning around 7 a.m.
His estimated lifetime salary income over about 31 years of service is nearly Rs 80 lakh, while expenditures and assets totalling Rs 4,59,87,491 were identified in a detailed inventory check.
An initial estimate placed expenditure and assets at around Rs 2.53 crore (allegedly Rs 1.73 crore, or 216.35 per cent, disproportionate), but detailed checks after the search revealed the higher figure, with the excess currently estimated at Rs 3,79,87,491 (about 474.84 per cent).
Searched assets include a G+3 building in Anand Nagar Extension, a G+2 hostel building in Gajadhar Nagar, agricultural land in Mundla Dosdar, vehicles, jewellery, cash and a bank balance; properties are registered in his wife Bhavna Pandey's name.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, and the Lokayukta says it will verify documents and records before determining the final value.
