Vetry NGO and Kangayam Thuligal Trust planted 15,000 young trees near the Orathupalayam dam in Tiruppur.

The trees were planted across an area of 100 acres.

The groups want to bring back native plants, birds and other wildlife.

The area had been damaged by a fast-growing invasive plant called Prosopis juliflora.

The team cleared some of this plant from the dam’s banks and nearby river areas.

Scientists recommended 50 kinds of native trees that can survive dry conditions and water changes.

The planting area has fencing and drip irrigation to protect and water the saplings.

Many students, villagers, public officials and other supporters helped with the work.
