CISF Plants Trees to Revive Yamuna Bank in Delhi
The CISF is trying to make a bare piece of land beside the Yamuna greener.
Nearly 100 CISF workers planted trees there on Friday.
The land covers six acres and was provided by the Delhi Development Authority.
They plan to plant 1,000 fruit and medicinal trees.
They will also plant one lakh slips of vetiver grass.
Vetiver has long roots that can help hold soil in place.
It may also help clean polluted water and absorb some pollutants.
The idea came from a successful forest project near a coal mine in Dhanbad.
The CISF plans to return in a year to see how the area has changed.
Nearly 100 CISF personnel led by Director General Praveer Ranjan planted saplings along the Yamuna on Friday.
The initiative covers a 6-acre plot provided by the Delhi Development Authority near Sarai Kale Khan.
The CISF plans to plant 1,000 fruit-bearing and medicinal trees and one lakh vetiver grass slips.
The project draws on a forestry effort that turned a barren hillock near a BCCL mine in Dhanbad into a forest.
Officials aim to make the Yamuna-bank site green and clean within a year and revisit it then.
