Kurla Landslide Death Toll Rises; Mayor Announces ₹4 Lakh Compensation

In Mumbai, India, there was a big landslide early on Wednesday morning.

A landslide happens when heavy rain makes mud, rocks and soil slide down a hill.

It happened in an area called Chirag Nagar, in the Kurla part of the city.

The landslide hit some small homes called a chawl, where families lived.

Sadly, about six or seven people died, including some children.

Several other people were hurt, and some were treated at hospitals.

Firefighters, police and rescue teams searched the area to find people.

Some reports said two people were still trapped under the debris.

The Mayor of Mumbai visited the affected families and said they will get money to help them.

Each family that lost someone will get ₹4 lakh, and each injured person will get ₹50,000.
