Seven killed in Mumbai Ghatkopar landslide after heavy rains

After very heavy rain, a big pile of mud and rocks from a hillside fell onto some small houses in a neighborhood in Mumbai, India, called Ghatkopar.

This kind of accident is called a landslide.

It happened very early in the morning, at 3:48.

The mud and debris hit two or three houses, and sadly some people died, including three children.

The news reports do not agree on the exact numbers: one says six people died and four were hurt, while another says seven people died and seven were hurt.

The people who died were declared brought dead at a hospital called Rajawadi Hospital.

The people who were hurt are being cared for at hospitals and are reported to be doing okay.

Firefighters, police, and special rescue teams came to help look for people in the rubble, but the rescue is hard because the streets near the houses are very narrow.

The mayor of Mumbai visited the families and promised money to help them, and the city says it warns people every year before the rainy season to move away from risky hillsides.
