Telangana to launch distribution of 1.05 crore smart ration cards
The leader of Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is going to give out new ration cards.
Ration cards are special cards that help poor families buy food at lower prices from government shops.
The new cards will be given out on August 15, which is India's Independence Day.
It is the country's 79th Independence Day.
The big starting event will happen in a place called Sangareddy.
About 1.05 crore families will receive the new cards.
Cards will also be handed out in all 119 areas of Telangana called Assembly Constituencies.
The new cards are smart cards made of laminated PVC, so they are waterproof, credit-card sized, and have QR codes to stop misuse.
Each area has an officer, called a Revenue Divisional Officer, who helps organize the event.
The handing out happens between 2 pm and 4 pm, helping poor families get food more easily.
