The event will be followed by simultaneous programmes at all 33 district headquarters · thehansindia.com

Telangana is a region where the government gives free rice to families that need food help.

Families use a special card called a ration card to get this rice.

Each eligible person can get six kilograms of fine rice for free every month.

Soon, the government will give out new 'smart' ration cards that make the system more transparent and efficient.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will launch the new cards on August 15, India's Independence Day.

The launch will take place in Sangareddy town.

At the same time, similar programmes will be held at all 33 district headquarters in Telangana.

More than 3.43 crore people are covered by food security cards, and crore means ten million.

Since January 26, 2025, the government has issued more than 16 lakh new food security cards.

The government spends about Rs 14,000 crore each year on ration rice and nearly Rs 20,000 crore on paddy procurement.
