7 Dead, 11 Injured After Bus Overturns in Himachal's Chamba
One Saturday morning in August, a bus was driving on a narrow, curvy mountain road in Chamba, a district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
The bus was carrying 18 people from the town of Bairagarh to the town of Chamba when it went off the road, flipped over, and fell onto a lower road.
Sadly, at least seven people died, including the driver and the conductor, and about 11 people were hurt.
One official report counted eight deaths and ten injuries, so the numbers from different reports are not exactly the same.
People nearby who heard the passengers calling for help ran to the bus right away and told the police.
Rescue workers from the police, fire services, and a special disaster team, along with local residents, worked together to pull people out of the damaged bus.
Six people with serious injuries were taken to a big hospital in Chamba for treatment.
The police are still investigating exactly why the bus crashed, and they worry the number of deaths could go up because some passengers may still be trapped under the wreckage.
The prime minister and the state chief minister sent messages of sympathy to the families.
At least seven people were killed and 11 injured when a private bus overturned and plunged onto a lower road near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday morning.
The Chamba District Disaster Management Authority reported a higher toll of eight dead, including the driver and conductor, and 10 injured, while most other reports cited seven dead and 11 injured.
The bus, operated by Sharma Bus Service (one outlet reported Sharma Travels), was carrying 18 people from Bairagarh to Chamba; SP Vijay Saklani said the exact number of passengers is not yet known.
