The government of the state decided to help people in a dry area get clean drinking water.

The area is called Palnadu, and it sits close to a big water reservoir called Nagarjuna Sagar.

Even though the reservoir is near, the villages in Palnadu have had very little safe water to drink.

Some people had to walk very far to fetch water.

Others used groundwater that contains fluoride, which can be bad for health.

The government said the water department may now take 1.865 TMCs of water from the reservoir to use for drinking.

The water will be pumped at a place called Vijayapuri South.

A new pipe system will be built so the water goes directly to village storage tanks.

This should help about 800,000 people in 363 villages.

The new system will be steadier than the old one, which depended on seasonal canals.
