Andhra Pradesh reserves Srisailam water for drinking amid El Nino

A government in India called Andhra Pradesh is in charge of a very big lake called a reservoir.

The reservoir is named Srisailam, and it holds water from the Krishna River.

A weather pattern called El Nino might bring less rain, which could make water harder to find.

To be safe, the government decided to save the reservoir's water mainly for people to drink until June 2027.

Right now Srisailam holds 119 TMC of water, and officials expect about 100 TMC more to arrive soon.

Some water will still be sent to places that need it, like Rayalaseema and the city of Chennai.

The government also figured out how much water is needed for other areas, including about 32 TMC for canals near Nagarjuna Sagar.

Every week, officials will check the rain, water levels, and floods to decide what to do next.

Their biggest goal is making sure every person in the state has clean water to drink.
