Centre Appoints New Chief Justices For Bombay, Calcutta High Courts
Two judges have been given new leadership jobs in India’s High Courts.
Justice Ravindra V Ghuge will become Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi will become Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Ghuge had been serving as the acting chief of the Bombay High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended both judges on August 6.
The government approved the recommendations nearly a month later.
President Droupadi Murmu cleared the appointments through an official notification.
The notification also included appointments to seven other High Courts.
The Centre appointed Justice Ravindra V Ghuge as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court was appointed Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Ghuge was serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court before the appointment.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended both elevations on August 6.
The notification, issued Saturday, followed nearly a month after the Collegium’s recommendations and covered eight High Courts.
