Collegium Recommends Ghuge for Calcutta HC, Tripathi for Bombay HC
The Supreme Court Collegium is a group of senior judges that helps decide who leads India's big courts.
They recently made a new suggestion about court leaders.
Right now, Ravindra Ghuge is the acting chief judge of the Bombay High Court.
The group wants him to become the chief judge of the Calcutta High Court instead.
They also want Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, a judge in Allahabad, to become the next chief judge of the Bombay High Court.
These are only suggestions at the moment.
The government has to say yes and make it official.
Ghuge has worked as a judge since 2013 and became a lawyer back in 1990.
If the government agrees, both judges will take on their new roles.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Bombay HC Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge as the next Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
The Collegium has also recommended Allahabad High Court Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi as the next Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
The Collegium passed its resolution on August 6, and the appointments will be formalised after the Central government clears the recommendations.
Ghuge, born in 1966, began practising law in 1990 and has served as a Bombay High Court judge since June 2013.
If approved, Ghuge will succeed Acting Chief Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty, and Tripathi would become the 50th Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
