SC Collegium recommends chief justices for four high courts

In India, the top judges of the country get a say in who leads the important courts in different states.

They work in a special group called the Collegium, and the most senior judge leads that group.

Recently, this group met on August 6, 2026, to pick leaders for four big courts.

They chose a new chief judge for the courts in Patna, Calcutta, Bombay, and Punjab and Haryana.

The judges picked were Justice V. Kameswar Rao, Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge, Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, and Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra.

The Collegium also decided that two other judges should move to different courts to work.

One judge will move from Orissa to Gujarat, and another from Orissa to Chhattisgarh.

These are only suggestions, not final orders.

The government still has to look at the suggestions and approve them before anything changes.
