Sixty-Five Doctors Apply for AIIMS Delhi Director’s Post
AIIMS Delhi needs to choose a new permanent director.
The job has attracted applications from 65 doctors.
Some work at AIIMS Delhi, while others come from hospitals and universities across the country.
The current acting director cannot apply because he is older than the allowed age.
Several women doctors are also among the candidates.
Applicants must have advanced medical or public-health qualifications and extensive teaching and professional experience.
A committee of senior government officials will review the candidates.
The committee will select the director and could ask more people to apply.
Sixty-five doctors applied for the AIIMS Delhi director’s position after Dr M Srinivas moved to NITI Aayog as Member (Health).
Dr Nikhil Tandon, the acting director, did not apply because he exceeded the 62-year age limit.
Thirty-six applicants are from AIIMS Delhi, while 29 come from other institutions, including AIIMS branches and medical colleges.
The applicants include department heads, university vice chancellors, private-sector doctors and several women candidates.
A search and selection committee headed by the Union Health secretary will choose the director and may invite additional applicants.
