Bihar Liquor Ban: JD(U) Rejects Review, Manjhi Backs Gujarat Model

In a big state in India called Bihar, there is a rule, called prohibition, that stops people from buying or drinking alcohol.

The leader of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, made this rule when he was chief minister.

Now, another leader named Jitan Ram Manjhi wants to change the rule.

He wants Bihar to copy a plan used in another Indian state called Gujarat.

But the political party that runs the state, called JD(U), says no.

A JD(U) spokesperson named Neeraj Kumar said there will be no review of the rule.

He said the rule has made big changes in the lives of women who live in villages.

He also said that even India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, liked the rule.

So right now, leaders are arguing about whether the alcohol rule should stay the same or be changed.
