Mumbai’s Seven Lakes Reach 95.97% Water Stock
Mumbai gets much of its water from seven lakes.
On Sunday morning, those lakes were almost full.
Together, they held about 95.97% of their useful water capacity.
Vehar was completely full.
Tansa, Modak Sagar, Bhatsa, Tulsi, and Upper Vaitarna were also close to full.
Rain fell over the reservoirs during the previous 24 hours.
Several lakes had already overflowed during the monsoon.
The strong water levels have reduced concerns about shortages, but civic officials are still watching the rain and reservoirs.
Mumbai’s seven lakes held 13,89,075 million litres of useful water as of 6 am Sunday.
The reservoirs reached 95.97% of their combined live storage capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.
Vehar reached 100% capacity, while Tansa and Modak Sagar reached 98.37% and 98.13%, respectively.
Bhatsa stood at 96.10%, Tulsi at 96.59%, and Upper Vaitarna at 91.51% of useful storage capacity.
Upper Vaitarna recorded 28 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest among the reservoirs listed.
