Nine married women were murdered, compared with eight last year.

Police officials and child-safety advocates said stronger prevention, awareness and timely intervention are needed.

Rape cases: 741 registered through July 31, compared with 710 last year; 709 were detected.
Minor-girl rape cases: 400 cases, compared with 364 during the same period last year.
Section 69 cases: 212 cases involving sexual relations obtained through deceitful means, compared with 139 last year.
Kidnapping cases: 780 cases, down from 822 last year.
Outraging modesty: 1,312 cases, down from 1,492 last year.
Intentional insult to modesty: 624 cases, up from 516 last year.
Married women murdered: Nine cases, compared with eight last year.
Dowry-related cruelty: 298 cases of physical and mental cruelty, compared with 305 last year.
