But the rain also makes the mountains dangerous for people who hike, or trek, on them.

Heavy rain can cause mud and rocks to slide down, called landslides, and can make streams flood quickly.

Trails become very slippery, and it can be hard to see where you are going.

Because of this, even very experienced trekkers can get into trouble.

A list of six famous Indian treks is shared as being risky to do during the monsoon.

One of them is the Hampta Pass Trek in Himachal Pradesh, which connects the Kullu Valley with Lahaul.

It is safer to wait until the drier months to go on these treks.
